Digital Journey
How do we dream a place before we arrive?
How does leisure become ritual?
How does fiction sculpt a city?
In this speculative media art seminar, students from HfG Karlsruhe are invited to unravel and recompose the fictions that shape Freiburg's identity as "the South of Germany." Engaging with the themes of worldbuilding, touristifica-tion, and the symbolic economies of travel, we explore how cities are staged, remembered, and consumed.
Set against the upcoming Biennale für Freiburg 2025, this block course becomes a site of imaginative and critical production. Through archival interventions, visual analyses, and a field trip into Freiburg's touristic performances, we probe the myths and geopolitics of place-making.What stories does a souvenir carry?
What choreography does sightseeing impose?
Can we reroute tourism as a tool for coun-ter-narratives?
From fictional guidebooks to immersive media rituals, students will develop their own artistic responses-installations, films, performances, or digital architectures that will feed into the biennale framework.
This is a journey into the constructed landscapes of desire, memory, and motion. Welcome to the tour you didn't expect.
